One of the most encouraging parts of building the stewardship community at Rushmere Farm has been the number of people who have expressed an interest in helping to care for and maintain the farm practically.
In response to this, we are beginning to introduce Toolbox Sessions for Stewards.
These short sessions will provide basic inductions into the safe use, care and shared responsibility of tools and equipment used around the farm. Initially, this will focus on access to shared hand tools for simple maintenance and repair tasks.
Sessions will cover:
- where tools are stored
- expectations around use and return
- basic safety and maintenance principles
- seasonal considerations for outdoor work
- appropriate use of shared spaces and equipment
Approved stewards will be able to borrow toolboxes for agreed tasks around the farm. Over time, and where appropriate, further opportunities may develop for additional training and responsibility in areas such as power tools, fencing, woodland management, chainsaw qualifications and tractor operation.
Many practical land management skills are seasonal and will continue to be explored through steward walks and volunteering days across the year.
Dates for Toolbox Sessions will be announced shortly. Stewards interested in participating are welcome to contact us to register their interest.
