Make a beautiful bench from locally sourced wood, using hand tools

This 3 day bench making course will introduce you to the joys of making long-lasting, unique furniture, using hand tools and local, sustainably sourced hardwoods.  We will cover:

• Splitting and shaping legs and stretchers using axes and drawknives.
• Preparing a rough sawn board for the bench top using hand planes, spokeshaves and scrapers.
• Determining the geometry of the bench using sightlines, and drilling holes.
• The practicalities of making mortice and tenon joints, including the drying of components.
• Assembling the bench.
• Finishing touches.

The course will take place in a beautiful, peaceful woodland workshop (weather permitting), with fresh locally sourced lunches provided.

Please be aware that accommodation is not included in the course price - don’t forget to add on accommodation if you would like to stay at the farm.  Yurts, a shepherd’s hut or camping are all available.
