Shepherd's Hut Manual

Thank you for your booking. Rushmere Farm is in a unique location, an organic farm with an emphasis on conservation and sustainability. Please have a look on our website and ask us about or farming system and produce, if you are interested! 

 

WHAT TO BRING

- Torch

- Warm clothing

- Sturdy shoes / wellies

- Cash for extra firewood 

 

SLEEPING

A double bed is inside the hut with bedding provided, there is also 1 x single foam mattresses (no bedding provided/not for dogs). 

 

EATING & DRINKING

Cutlery, crockery, pots and pans are provided in the farmyard kitchen area. A gas stove can be used for cooking, and the log burner will also boil water. The village has a well-stocked shop (The Peoples Market) and a pub (The Vine) serving decent pub grub. If you are willing to drive a bit further, The White Lion in Soberton or The Bakers Arms in Droxford have very good food, wine and beer. 

CLOTHING

Check the weather and bring appropriate clothing. Outside of the summer season you will almost certainly need wellies/boots and a coat. Warm clothing, even in summer, will be useful. The grass can be wet in the mornings even during summer. 

 

SHOWER/TOILETS

The shower and toilets are in a block near to the hut in the farmyard. Two electricity sockets are on the outside of the block if required. Towels are provided. 

 

WASHING

There is a large washing up area in the farmyard by the showers/toilet. 

FIRE.

There is a fire pit near the hut, and a log burner inside. Enough logs, kindling and tinder are provided for the log burner for 1 night. Additional wood is charged at £5 per basket. Please consider the environment when burning wood, and use only what is necessary. 

 

DOGS

Their impact on the hut and the surrounding area is equal to, if not greater than a human's. You will see less wildlife with a dog present, nevertheless dogs are welcome if they are well behaved, and all their poos are tidied up and disposed of. Fines will be payable for poos and poo bags found in the area, or for dogs discovered off a lead. It is essential for dogs to be kept on a lead at all times whilst on the farm, as it is a working farm with livestock and protected conservation areas. 

 

GETTING TO THE SHEPHERD'S HUT

The pin drop will lead you to the approximate parking location. 

 

If at the address, 'Rushmere Farm, Rushmere Lane, PO7 4SG', leave Rushmere Farm on your right as you head north on Rushmere Lane. Pass the pond on your right and turn right at the fork. Pass a flint wall and barn on your right and turn right towards Pithill on Pithill Lane. After approximately 200m, before the pin, you will see on your right an entrance into a tarmac car park. Park here and walk through the wooden gate. Ahead is the shepherd's hut and to your left are the facilities. DO NOT drive in. 

 

We operate a self-check-in. We would recommend arriving in the light (from 2pm onwards), so that you have time to familiarise yourself with your surroundings.
